Google Home Hub vs standard Home sound quality : googlehome

If you forget the name of a device, you can check it with a couple of taps. You can watch YouTube on the Echo Show, but only via a browser, which doesn't respond to voice commands. At any rate, the result is messier than Google probably wanted or intended.

If you want an audio quality upgrade from the original Google Home and don't need the screen, go for the new Nest Audio. "At night, I just say, 'Hey Google, turn off my bedroom lights,' and the room goes dark," she wrote. If you're going for pure sonic superiority between the Echo and Google Home ranges however, opt for the Google Home Max.

Why is Google Home better than Google Nest Hub (1st Gen)?

Chromecast built-in is a technology that allows users to stream entertainment and apps from their phone, tablet, or laptop, straight to the Chromecast-enabled device. We imagine most people will put one in their living room or bedroom. It's not for wall-mounting but can be positioned either vertically or horizontally making it pretty versatile. It offers all the same features as the smaller Nest Mini and Nest Audio though, just with better sound capabilities.

You can also segment your gadgets into multiple homes if you have an office and an apartment. Google claims you can control over 200 million different products from Home View, from Nest smart home devices to Philips Hue light bulbs. For the Home Hub, Google’s redesigned its Search, YouTube, Maps, Calendar and Photos features, which should make it easier for your commands to register and for the speaker to carry out your bidding.

Google Nest Mini

The Nest Hub can be quite helpful in the kitchen, but the Nest Audio isn’t much more expensive and offers way better sound and would make more sense if it’s being used both in the kitchen and the living room. Whether you have light or dark decor, either speaker line will have something complementary. The Echo and Echo Dot are both available in black, blue, or white versions; the Nest Audio comes in black, blue, green, salmon, or white, while the Nest Mini has black, blue, salmon, and white models. Google Assistant doesn't have nearly as many third-party plug-ins, but it's much easier to talk to. It can understand different requests more easily than Alexa, and that's very appealing. Keep in mind that, with both Alexa and Google Assistant, third-party speaker manufacturers are increasingly choosing to integrate the voice helpers into their own products.

Plug it in and set it up on your Wi-Fi using the Google Home app, then, thanks to the built-in Google Assistant, you can ask Google Nest Hub any question you'd ask the original Google Home. But the original Nest Hub bucked the trend of tablet-sized smart displays in favor of something more compact and understated. It was a shrewd move, making for a smart display that blends into modern homes better than any other we've tested.

Amazon Echo Dot With Clock (4th Gen) Review

The Nest Hub Max isn't constantly uploading what the camera sees to Google's servers. You'll see a solid green light beside the camera whenever the Nest Hub Max is uploading images or video to Google's servers. Imagine the Nest Hub came across a magic mushroom from Super Mario Bros. and got a lot bigger. Available in your choice of chalk or charcoal it's the exact same design as before, just larger. There’s no camera on the device, which Google says is a conscious privacy-led decision. Instead, where you’d normally find a camera right in the middle of the top bezel, there’s the Home Hub’s Ambient EQ sensor.

Its sound quality is good, but it isn't fit to be your main party speaker, even if it is a step-up from the Nest Mini. All of these features are the same on all of the Google Assistant-equipped smart displays, and my favorite feature of both the Lenovo Smart Display and the JBL Link View has made its way intact to the Google Nest Hub. Search for a recipe by voice, or find one in your phone and send it to your display. Google Assistant will read the ingredients and directions out loud and you can see them listed on the screen. Unlike most of the other smart displays, the Nest Hub doesn't have a camera, which might be a negative for some, but privacy-minded folks will appreciate its absence.

Amazon Echo vs Google Home: smart features

Thanks to its diminutive size, the Nest Mini can be placed virtually anywhere, including wall-mounted, and even kept out of sight if you wish. It can load up content on any Chromecast device, giving you voice-controlled access to movies and TV shows from supported services. Google Nest Hub offers a 7-inch display, sleep tracking, all the features of Google Assistant. Interpretation of the news based on evidence, including data; projecting how events might unfold based on past events or how products and services compare against each other. The sound on the Nest Hub is a lot clearer but is also a lot more tinny than the sound of the Google Home.

As with all the devices launched at the Pixel event, the Home Hub comes with a free six-month subscription to YouTube Premium, which also includes Google’s YouTube Music streaming service as part of the package. Swipe your finger down from the top of the screen and you’re greeted with Home View, your main home screen, adorned with Google-ised icons and fonts. It’s an attractive-looking menu system which is clear and easy to read. Resolution is an essential indicator of a screen's image quality, representing the maximum amount of pixels that can be shown on the screen. The resolution is given as a compound value, comprised of horizontal and vertical pixels.

What the Google Home Hub lacks in size, it makes up for in substance

The Google Home’s sound has a lot more bass due to the two passive radiators but the overall soundstage is quite muffled. The choice really then comes down to the preference of ecosystem as opposed to the hardware. Then Google Home is probably for you, as the two areas are only going to become ever-more-closely linked. Google's natural language understanding is superior too, even if its voice implementation still needs some refinement. If you're looking for a small Echo speaker, your best best then is the Echo Spot, which despite its size, offers a richer sound. The screen, however, massively increases its expense, so bear that in mind – if you don't want a screen, the Echo Dot with Clock is an attractive option.

If you can only afford the entry-level devices, and music remains a top priority for you, go for the Google Home Mini, which sounds a lot better than the Echo Dot. Unless you hook up a Dot to another speaker over Bluetooth or the 3.5mm jack, it's just too thin and harsh to fully enjoy. Having said that, Alexa tends to be better when it comes to support for a wider range of devices, as well as better smart home integration. So if you have a lot of smart home devices already, Alexa might be your best bet. You can issue a wide variety of voice commands to the Google Nest Hub.

Can Alexa drop in on Google Home?

You can also multitask while you cook and watch videos, play music, set a timer or add something to your shopping list. Simply say "resume cooking" when you're ready and Google will go right back to where you left off in the recipe. It's a great feature that's ahead of Alexa's similar recipe feature on the Echo Show. If you don't like the sound quality of the Nest Hub, you can also set another speaker as your default and it will automatically start playing music on that device instead of through its own speakers. Have recommendable 10-inch smart displays with Google Assistant built in and most of the same features as the Nest Hub.
